Hello and Welcome!
My name is Rhonda and I’m an artist residing in Austin Texas. I have always designed and created art, dolls, and accessories. I’m currently designing and creating jewelry and I have a store on etsy, Dizzy in Chains. I received my BA in Painting and Drawing from The University of Texas at Austin and I received my MA in Sculpture and Jewelry from Stephen F. Austin State Univeristy.
I’ve been artsy/crafty all of my life. My Mom would ask me politly to quit making decorations for the Christmas tree, she had some of her own she wanted to hang. I’ve just always had the desire to make and create.
Although I’ve been formally trained, I also love crafting. I taught myself how to crochet and made clothing for my custom dolls. You can visit that site here stikki dolls.
My biggest influences are the Pop Artists, Robert Rauschenburg, Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol and more specifically Joseph Cornell. I always found it interesting how they could take mudane items and raise them to a status of fine art. I take a similar approach with my jewerly and my art. It’s easy to go to the art store or the jewelry supply to find what you need. I prefer going to garage sales, estate sales, thrift stores or even looking around for found items. I think they have a history and patina that only come from age and existance in another fuction. I was recyling before it became “upcyling”.
I will be blogging about my lastest designs, design problems and anything else that seems appropriate to blog about and will be of interest or entertainment value to my readers.
When I’m not making art, I run and lift weights. You will also see posts that talk about my training experieces and how I apply them to my art and my art experices and how I apply them to training. Inspiration comes from all different avenues and I’m always open to it.
